We do this by operating as an interim data team for our clients–occasionally alongside an existing data team–always with the goal of fully handing over to an internal data team by the end of the project. We leverage our combined experience in data strategy, business analysis, data engineering, analytics engineering, data analytics, and data science to deliver meaningful insights to the business and set their internal data team up for long-term success.
Tasman was founded in 2017 and has since grown to a team of 20 across three countries: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Sweden. We expect to double in size in 2022 as we take on an increasing number of clients. We are a profitable business and have not taken outside investment–our growth is fully funded by the revenue from client work.

You will work as our Data Engineering Lead. This is a hybrid role that combines the opportunity to build out and manage a team of up to 4 data engineers, and through that work shape the way we do data engineering at Tasman, with the possibility to still get stuck in and work on the most complex engineering projects that we take on.
The role sits across our 2 (soon 3) delivery squads. Each squad works with between 4 and 6 clients at any time and is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the data project for those clients. Squads are multidisciplinary teams that consist of data engineers, analytics engineers, data analysts, and data scientists.
You are someone who:

You have done some of these things:
- worked with the modern data stack and become an expert in some its products
- designed, developed, maintained, and troubleshooted bespoke data pipelines
- developed proficiency in Git or another distributed source control system
- developed proficiency in an object-oriented programming language
- made architectural or design decisions and seen them through to implementation
- developed and articulated opinions about the modern data stack, the role and value of the products in it, and the combination of people, products, and processes that is most effective at delivering value from data for businesses
- worked in cross-functional teams and with business stakeholders to deliver tangible business value
- worked in an agile environment
- worked in a consultancy or in an e-commerce, product or SaaS company
- mentored or managed other data engineers
- build out the data engineering team at Tasman, manage up to 4 data engineers, and shape how we do data engineering at Tasman
- establish standards for and participate in code reviews to promote a high standard of work across the team
- work on the most complex data engineering project that we take on
- collaborate with our clients to make architectural or design decisions and advise them on the pros and cons of specific products or solutions
- collaborate with the squads to design and develop end-to-end solutions that consider the business requirements as well as cost, security, and performance
- lead efforts across the squads to develop our internal tools, processes, and products to help us deliver more efficiently to a growing number of clients

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The compensation and benefits for someone based in the UK are:
- Salary of £80,000 - £100,000 depending on experience
- £1000 budget for home office equipment (e.g. a desk or chair)
- £400 annual well-being benefit
- £50 per month sport benefit
- £50 per month benefit for refreshments
- £1000 annual budget for training and professional development
- 3 months of fully paid parental leave
- Pension contribution of 5%
The compensation and benefits for someone based in the Netherlands are:
- Salary €8000 - €10 000 per month depending on experience
- €1200 budget for home office equipment (e.g. a desk or chair)
- €500 annual well-being benefit
- €60 per month sport benefit
- €60 per month benefit for refreshments
- €1200 annual budget for training and professional development
- 3 months of fully paid parental leave
The compensation and benefits for someone based in Sweden are:
- Salary 60 000 - 75 000 kr depending on experience
- 12 000 kr budget for home office equipment (e.g. a desk or chair)
- 5000 kr annual well-being benefit
- 5000 kr annual sport benefit (friskvårdsbidrag)
- 600 kr per month benefit for refreshments
- 12 000 kr annual budget for training and professional development
- Paid parental leave matching 90% for 6 months
- Pension contribution matching ITP1
We also offer 25 days of holiday in addition to any public holidays.
We are open to candidates based in other European countries. Those team members are hired as full-time contractors and their compensation is adjusted to allow for an equivalent total compensation & benefits package.

This is what you can expect from the application process:
- Application. You will be asked to submit a resume and answer a few questions, which help us understand how your background and interests fit with what we are looking for at Tasman. - Short introductory call. We will schedule a brief call with the hiring manager for this role to discuss your background and interests and to give you the opportunity to learn more about Tasman.
- Case study. You will be given a case study inspired by a real scenario we worked on with a former client. The aim of the case study is to assess your ability to propose a solution to a set of architectural and business challenges.
- Case study presentation & technical interview. This is a 90 minute interview that consists of a short presentation of the case study, followed by a discussion about this. We will also ask more detailed, technical questions about prior work (or other) experience.
- Team interview. The final step in the application process is a 1-hour interview with the hiring manager for this role and another team member. Their questions will focus on culture fit and broader business understanding. You will, of course, get to ask them plenty of questions too to learn more about what it’s like to work for Tasman.
